Software Career For Beginners: Is It Too Late To Start?

3 min read

If you’re feeling like you’re too late to start a new career it could be because of your age, thinking that your peers are much better than you or feeling demoralized by seeing younger people achieving great things. Speaking from my own experience I’ve been demoralized by some of my peers who are much more knowledgeable and experienced than me. However, I remind myself that there’s no real difference between us and that I can become better than them someday.

The truth is, it’s never too late to start pursuing your dreams. You don’t have to be a certain age, have a specific skill set, or a degree to start. You can start wherever you are, with whatever resources you have, and work towards your goals. It’s important to remember that success is not about being the best or achieving everything quickly. It’s about setting achievable goals, working hard, and persevering through challenges.

The world is changing rapidly, and there are many opportunities to learn new skills and pursue different careers. With the abundance of information and resources available online, you can learn anything you want from coding to graphic design to marketing. There are also many online courses, boot camps, and mentorship programs that can help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.

So if you’re feeling like you’ve missed the train, remember that there is no set timeline for success. Everyone’s journey is different, and the key is to keep moving forward, no matter how small the steps may be. You are capable of achieving great things, and it’s never too late to start working toward your dreams.

Now let’s get to the main question. Are you too late? Can you still start now? No, it is never too late for anything, and you should start right away. The software industry is growing day by day and needs more and more people. To give a simple example, as someone who has only been coding for 6 months in this field, I have received 4 job offers already. Would this be possible if the train had already left the station? You need to stop fighting against the question marks, uncertainties, and obstacles you set for yourself and start today. Your competitors are not fighting with their thoughts like you, they are fighting with their wills to do more.

Age may be the thing that makes you feel like you are too late. Let me give you a few examples to change this idea. Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, opened his first Walmart store at the age of 44. Ray Kroc, the owner of the McDonald’s restaurant chain, bought McDonald’s at the age of 52. Harland Sanders, the founder of KFC, retired at the age of 65 and became a successful businessman by opening his restaurant. Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company, founded Ford at the age of 40. J.K. Rowling, the author who gained fame with the Harry Potter book series, published her first book at the age of 32. So, would all these people have achieved these successes if they had thought, “Am I too late? Can I still start now?” and nullified their potential? I specifically gave examples of people who achieved great things at a later age to remind you that you can still achieve something, regardless of your age. Your age cannot negatively affect your future life or career.

Feeling like you’re late to the game is perfectly normal, but don’t let this thought hinder your progress. Instead of comparing yourself to your peers or those younger than you, compare yourself to who you were yesterday. If you’re better today than you were yesterday, then you’ve already accomplished something. If you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone else? Start working and don’t let negative thoughts hold you back.
